Hope yr getting yr drink on this holiday season! When I first heard this band's name I thought they were "I AM THE LICKER"...but, "No," they said, "it's 'I AM THE LIQUOR' like [motions drinking a bottle] liquor." This band used to practice in the attic at Blog Cabin, a punk house no more located on 16th St. in Pilsen (Chicago). My favorite line is from "I Can't Smoke & Swear I'm Fucked." I might as well just give up. Haha. Never!

2) Brutal Youth
3) Take A Walk
4) Identity Theft
5) Larky Clark Is A Pedophile
6) If I Can't Smoke & Swear I'm Fucked
7) Boo-Hoo
8) Cowboys & Indians
9) Indecisive
10) Gross & Drunken PDA
11) Whiskey Dicks
12) The Way Of The World (by Flipper)

Recorded in the spring of 2007 in Chicago, IL. I Am The Liquor is Jesse - drums, Max - bass, & Warzone (aka Amanda) - vocals. This tape is Hardscrabble Amateurs release # 06.

Thrills "N.A.F.I.T.C." Original Boston Punk 1977-1981

I do love that 12 disc reference of female fronted punk from the 70s & 80s, but there's at least a few bands that were missed. For instance, the Thrills from Boston. I knew nothing of this band til I found it at Reckless Records. I'm always seeking out new female-fronted punk bands, so when I found a brand new copy of this LP, I snatched it up. They were more of a rock 'n' roll band, but they definitely had a punk edge. And they even have a rager that is under a minute long ("Drano Enema"). I eat it up. Unfortunately, no lyrics were included for this release. Do yr best to sing along. And enjoy!

1. Hey (Not Another Face In The Crowd)
2. I'll Be The Heartbreaker
3. Don't Come Back
4. The Last To Know
5. Rave Up Tonight
6. Who Knows?
7. Drano Enema (The Fun Song)
8. David Berkowitz Blues (44 Caliber Killer With The Talkin' Dog)
9. When Ya Gonna Quit?
10. Summer Street Massacre
11. The Lonely Nun Song
12. Burn Down The City
13. Nothin' But A Two Bit Whore
14. Someday (We'll Rise Again)
15. (I Don't Want No) Sympathy

All Songs written by Johnny Angel, except "Drano Enema," "The Lonely Nun Song" and "Nothin' But A Two Bit Whore" written by Johnny Angel/Barb "Wire" Kitson.

Tracks 1 & 2 recorded at Triton Studios, Boston, March 1979.
Tracks 3 & 4 recorded at The Metro Theatre, 1981.
Tracks 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15 recorded at WERS-FM, Boston, October 1978.

Varix demo

If you head on over to my other blog (all-female bands) then you'll see that I also have a big love for all-female bands. Varix were an all female hardcore punk band from Minneapolis, MN. Read more at http://www.tumblr.com/blog/kisston.

Here's a (crappy cellphone) photo of the cover for their tape...

The Gossip "s/t e.p."

My computer still cannot get on the internet, but I do have access to the internet! I found an awesome blog dedicated to Beth Ditto of The Gossip. It's called Fuck Yeah Beth Ditto. Pretty sweet. I've seen The Gossip a few times. They bring the house down. Their s/t e.p. came out in 1999 on K Records. Here is a link to each track. I've included the lyrics next to the link so you can sing along! Enjoy!!

"Redd Hott"
(don't call it love cuz you know that it ain't. they say heaven honey i ain't the same. you got a love that drives a girl insane. you got a car that can take me away. if you wanna do it well then come and do it. if you wanna deuce[?] me well then come and deuce[?] me. it's the same old thing that they say about me. well i don't care just what they say about me. i'd like to hear about what they see.)

"On The Prowl"
(i met a firecracker girl on the 4th of july. i'll make yr momma beg and yr daddy cry. i'd walk a million miles for a piece of yr pie. i'm not a stranger darling, so don't you be shy. i'll give you something that you'll never forget. we're gonna do it til we're both out of breath. come on darling cuz yr making me wet. so give me something that i haven't had yet. i'm gonna treat you right. just let mamma take yr hand. ya better hang on tight. yr gonna need it. i'm gonna treat you right. gonna take you home tonight. it's gonna be better darling. better get it started cuz i'll give you something that you'll never forget. we're gonna do it til we're both out of breath. come on darling cuz you're making me wet. so give me something that i haven't had yet.)

"Jailbreak"
(i left her crying. oh what a pity, she told me. i see you choking on the tears yr holding. my hands're in the air, honey. so what the hell honey? that's why i do what i did to survive. i walk these streets for miles. i'm holding back these tears in style. i feel you burn inside me. yeah, yes, yes. we're fallen angels, baby. i make you feel so pretty. yr such a beauty when yr on your knees, baby. i feel you walking. i feel you talking. you feel everything. but there's nothing to me.)

"Dressed In Black"
(i know i heard her. i know i need her. oh mama. well mama told me that i would meet girls like you. i hear it's wrong but i'm gonna do it to you. mama said girl, you know you can never go back. mama warned me 'bout the girls all dressed in black. they'll steal yr heart and make you cry but they don't care. take you down..so girls, you gotta beware. i gave in, and now i won't ever go back. mama warned me 'bout the girls all dressed in black.)

time out

My computer (the one with all my music files on it) has not been able to connect to the internet lately. Not at all. Nope. So, I can't continue with this blog anytime soon. I'm using my partner's computer for now.
I just found a 14 disc compilation of female fronted heavy metal from 1976-1989. It's killer. I haven't made it through all 14 discs yet, but so far my fave track is from Sweet Jayne! Here's their song "Icarus" on youtube!
Take care!

Inner Conflict "Anschlusstreffer"

I found out about Inner Conflict in 2004. I found a free mp3 on someone's website and I was immediately hooked. Really really pretty female vocals, if I do say so myself. I was lucky enough to find this CD in someone's distro. I later found an LP (the self-titled one) in Havoc Records distro. (They don't have it for sale anymore.) I also have a compilation CD that has stuff recorded from 1996-2002. Jenny does not always sing. I don't think she came into the band full-time until 2000-ish. Unfortunately I don't know the German language that well, and since they are a German band, their website is all in German. Not too many years ago they had a lot of free mp3s on their website, but that's not the case anymore. Too bad I don't have the computer that those songs were on. There was some good live tracks. Oh, well, what can you do? Here's Inner Conflict at their best (in my opinion). I typed out the lyrics for each song. (I like doing that.) And each song can be downloaded at yr discretion. Have fun!

"Zehn Zu Drei"
(das was ihr nicht mal versucht habt
wollte ich doch niemale wagen
euer aufgeben kenn jetzt doch
noch kein grund sein zu verzagen
mann ich weiss wo ich steh
zwar noch nicht wohin das geht
doch alles was ich jetzt versuch
ist wirklich meins
und da steh ich neumarkt, köln
unterm anzeigeschild
rauche zigaretten - mann - ich hatte aufgehört
da war'n doch noch so viele fragen
und es gab noch was zu sagen
wohin ich damit soll ist jetzt wohl mein problem
warum, was soll das, warum jetzt?
stand ja alles da
ist das vielleicht erwachsen werden?
mann ist das beschissen
und die viel zu langen tage
zwischen viel zu kurzen stunden
hab ich gestern, früher, zwischendurch
mal einfacher gefunden
bleiben ist nicht immer leicht
doch das forder ich von euch
ich schreige gegen meine wand
und bleibe taub)

"I Don't Care"
(you criticize the way i live my life
you complain about the way i look
but you can say whatever you want
you don't mean anything to me
but there is one this you should know
i don't care at all
just one thing you should know
i don't care at all
do you really think
that a small scene changes anything
but selling and buying
some records and tapes
and deciding who is punk and who is not
but there is one this you should know
i don't care at all
just one thing you should know
i don't care at all)

"Promises"
(now it really looks like
nothing has changed at all
should i really let go?
tell me why should i?
so many problems were made
while we tried to change the way
much that i gave
don't tell me what you'd like to be
in case i just don't want to see
what you like and want
if you want to
i know what heaven means to me
that just might be hell to you
much that you keep
if we stop to believe
we will never achieve
what we promised each other to do
you say things will be fine
but you waste all your time
forgetting all the trouble
that we've been through)

"Ab Dafür"
(now that i know
that i got nothing to fear
i also know
that none of my fears was real
i'm not that wise
cause i don't follow those lies
the television
everyday sells to my eyes
nothing to complain
right then the clouds came
tearing me down
hiding the sun
and if you ever ask me why
i'm feeling the way i do
i got this for you you
just take a look outside
and tell me if you feel it too
got something to do
i often find myself in situations
not working out
the way that i want them to
i think it's time for me to take some action
but not become my suffering you)

"Nase Im Wind"
(nach draussen - nase in den wind
werd mal sehn was noch geht
lass den mief und die idioten
um sich kreisend zurück
wenn das zuviel für dich ist
bitteschön - ist mir einerlei
bleib halt in deiner nische und
trink mehr bier bist ja nicht allein
punkrock feisler alles im blick - gottgleich!
ab ins punkarbeitslager, oder wat?!
verpiss dich und lall jemand anders zu
verklärte blicke: früher...
heute nur noch holzkopf da
aber immer sind sie auch da
alles ist wunderbar
richtige zeit, richtiger ort
das ist das beste was es gibt
und die sonne geht schon auf
in berlin order so
und wir sind da mit euch
besten dank dafuer)

"Ohne Boden"
(danke für die schönen worte
hab' dir tatsächlich geglaubt
leider war da kein verlass
und mein zuhause ist geraubt
kommen darf ich jederzeit
die schlösser hast du ausgetauscht
was mal meine festung war
ist jetzt ein seelenleeres haus
alles voll mit leeren worten
klingen tun sie wirklich gut
doch was vom feuer uebrig bleibt
ist leider asche und nicht glut
ich habe einiges verloren
ich fürchte fast das ist final
doch was du verloren hast
ist für dich weit mehr als fatal
Ich weiss ich fall auf meine füsse
Ist halt einfach meine art
du wirst ohne boden fallen
und ich hab mitleid - das wird hart)

"Sechsundfünfzig"
(das wind ja wohl hoffentlich
noch nicht alles gewesen sein
da muss es doch ir gendwo
keiner kann atmen
ohne luft
was hast du erwartet
ist noch zeit genug
als das hier oder ist das
zu viel verlangt
wenn's für dich o.k. ist
warum erstickst du dann)

"...Und Raus"
(langer weg, was soll's, los lass uns gehen
dreh nicht um bloss um zu warten
los jetzt weiter, bleib bloss nicht stehen
niemals ohne antrieb starten

"C4courage"
(aufgewacht, nicht nachgedacht
alles so wie immer
angestrengtes freundlichsein und
launen zementiert
doch ir gendwie und ir gendwann
wie michael douglas
falling down...los angeles...
maske auf
n schuss im lauf
losgelegt - c4courage
und die chemiewaffenkonvention gilt
nicht für einsä tze im innern
also frust weggespült, sprengstoffgürtel
in den schrank und das fernsehen an
flasch auf
und wieder nicht
losgelegt - c4courage
was weiss ich schon von verzweiflung
solche gedanken warn mir verzweiflung
und da die fee keinen wunsch mehr frei hat
bleibt wohl alles wie es war)

"Pretty Hell"
(all the things that i do
wish there was someone who knew
how to tell- this is hell
pretty hell
i step on gas
and i act as if it was
my last chance to be
kind of free
every time i go and mean
to start the show i end up
with more emptiness
more or less
getting high and falling deep
feel there's nothing more to heap
i hope i find whatever
nights in a crowded house
loneliness is still around
i fear to lose myself
five to twelve
i know i sound fake
more than just a little brake
really need to get down
but there's no ground
i know that i should take more
than just a little break
will it be together
there's no ground)

"Something You Haven't Had Enough Of"
(not easy to let go
something you haven't had enough of
still want to believe
there's a possibility to
find a way out
i definitely know
that anyway i'll be the one to go
the sooner i do, sooner i do
the better it is - for you
not easy to go in
when you decided to give up
don't want to believe
there's a possibility to
find a way out)

"Kammerjäger"
(die angst in deinen augen
kenne ich sehr gut
das zittern in der stimme
der wille zur verä nderung
manövriet das schiff
raus aufs offene meer
und weider mal stehst du
vor der wahl
und du musst entscheiden
der moment so greifbar nah
die ruhe vor dem sturm
die unsicherheit
lässt dich zweifeln
kann ich gut verstehn
aber tief in dir
wohnt die unzufriedenheit
und knirscht mit den zähnen)

The Distillers "The Distillers"

The Distillers self-titled album was the first record I ever bought. Bought it when I was 17. Had no record player, but knew my dad had one in storage. I later sold this record cuz it was shot. The first time I played it, it sounded warped. It sucked. But I have it on CD now. And now this is for you. For all you young-uns out there, this is The Distillers circa 1999. Casper (Rose) played guitar and did back-up vocals. Mat Young played the drums. Kim"chi" Fuelleman played bass and sang. And Brody ("Armstrong" at the time) played guitar and sang lead vocals. This album came out on Hellcat Records in 2000. Here are the lyrics to each song (even the bonus track) and the song to go with it. Enjoy this.

"Oh Serena"
(oh serena, i know what they're saying about you. they all say it's a resistance. they all say that ya didn't listen. well, they all have scars on their eyes, it's true. night and day is like a haunted replay. i know it girl. i'll pray for you. just remember it's not stronger than you. oh serena, i know what they're saying about you. tasted death but i'll shed the night. night irrelevant the time. carnelby is a bit of you. time to feel it. time to fist it. time to lure it. oh, time to miss it. time to lure this stone cold weather. time alone and time away. i know what they say about you. shit. oh serena, i know the pain's inside of you. oh serena, i know what they're saying about you and it's not true.)

"Idoless"
(i don't know it, but i know it. you better find out what your place is. urban plight is in the city streets. it's infectious and it is complacent. idoless. over expression and rationed. assimilated temptation. integregation. molested. accosted. detested. i'll wreck this coming down like the apocalypse. idoless. syndication. i don't know it, but i know it. you better find out what your name is. arrested. infested. it's your collective. coming off like you wrote the ten commandments. idoless. syndication. i don't know it, but i know it. you better find out what your place is. urban plight is in the city streets. it's infectious and you are complacent. idoless. syndication. the idol is within you. watch it come on through. the idol is within you. watch it come on through.)

"The World Comes Tumblin'"
(start a riot. slash ya wrists red. you want an answer? do you speak delinquently? yeah. there's a message. antagonist. you want an answer? i bet you killed someone. yeah. come on, i beg you. my world comes tumbling down. i paid the price, heartache. i'm not sorry i fell in love with you in new york city. yeah. she ran away. her mamma never loved her. pill popping pity. she is sick in melbourne city. yeah. come on, i beg you. my world comes tumbling down. hey, oh baby. come on and speak to me. hey come on. yeah. you are bored. oh you're fucking bored. huh, you're fucking bored.)

"L.A. Girl"
(this is the story about a circle of women. l.a. women on an l.a. mission. this is the glory. gonna get their hooks in. gonna drag you way down. yeah you wanna go home soon? yeah god almighty, what the fuck happened to you? i'm not red, white and blue. outta mind. outta sight. every day and all night. i watch you pale ass on my street. watch you walk on through. then she went glassy. a sawn-off tragedy. delivered to the city of new beginning. power and glory in the name of the enemy. you sell your restless casualty for power and glory. yeah god almighty, what the fuck happened to you? i'm not red, white and blue. outta mind. outta sight. every day and all night. i watch you pale ass on my street. watch you walk on through. hey, yeah. oh baby. do i miss you? i don't miss you at all. and i said god almighty, what the fuck happened to you? i'm not red, white and blue. outta mind. outta sight. every day and all night. i watch you pale ass on my street. watch you walk on through this heat. watch you walk on through, girl. oh hey yeah. fuck you fuck you fuck you.)

"Distilla Truant"
(i don't know why ya come here. i don't know what you want from me. everybody says you use me. oh why did you take that? oh why did you make me? i'm the one who's suffering for you. woah, why? yeah, what do you think? bet you'd die for your country. sit here and bleed. yeah. i don't know why ya come here. i don't know what you want from me. everybody says you use me. oh why did you take that? oh why did you make me? i'm the one who's suffering for you. woah, why? yeah, what do you think? bet you'd die for your country. sit here and bleed. yeah. what you feel, oh i hate you. i don't know why ya come here. i don't know what you want from me. everybody says you use me. woah, why?)

"Ask The Angels"
[this is a cover. patti smith did this. fuck yeah.] (ask the angels who they're calling. ask the angles if they're calling to thee. ask the angels while they're falling who that person could possibly be. and i know you got the feeling. you know i feel it crawl across the floor. and i know it got you reeling. and honey honey the call is for war. and it's wild. everybody got the feeling. you know the feeling and it's stronger each day. everybody wants to be reeling. and baby baby i'll show you the way. and i know it's hard sometimes, you got a piece and hit across the sky. and i know it's hard sometimes. and world war is the battle cry. and it's wild. across the country. through the fields. you know i see it written across the sky. people rising from the highways. and war war is the battle cry. and it's wild. armageddon, it's gotten. no savior jailer can take it from me. world's rocking. it's just beginning. and rock n roll is what i'm born to be. and it's wild. ask the angles if they're starting to move. coming in droves in from l.a. ask the angels if they're starting to groove. lightning as armor and it's today. it's wild.)

"Oldscratch"
(here's a chance to express your liberty. no one but you can know what stepping down can mean. despotic leader kills the bravest traitor on the street. but keep the faith. they say they'll free us from our pain. they sell you a religious escapade. you join the church and they take your life away. shameless like money. eat yr money quick. but keep the faith. they say they'll free us from our pain. but your liberty's exchanged. i said your liberty's exchanged.)

"Girlfixer"
[kim, who went on to be in exene cervenka & the original sinners, sings most of this song.] (no more coquettish look on your face. not so much pretty but you're in your place. hide behind your man. don't care to think for you. keep your claws off me as i walk on through. don't you glare. i'm not the kind of girl who will just pull on your hair. i won't be through til you're blue. just us two. whatchya gonna do? damn man, come on and sell your seconds. no one can make ya make ya break ya. anyway i'll make ya. they'll crown me. never used to harm no one no matter what the reason. now you dug your grave and it's bitch-hunting season. smiling madly when i see you around. biding my time till i can get you on the ground. it's not my plan to steal your man. it's a pitiful sight that's hard to stand. i guess i don't get a clue. so just step yr ass aside and let me walk on fucking through. damn man, come on and sell your seconds. no one can make ya make ya break ya. anyway i'll make ya. they'll crown me.)

"Open Sky"
(open sky. open ether. open rise up inside. i see it. it's true. yeah it's true. all rise up in ether. all rise up inside. believe it. it's true. yeah it's true. open sky. open ether. open and rise up inside it. i see it. it's true. yeah it's true. all rise elitists. all rise up inside. i see it. it's true. yeah it's true. all this shit. i'll listen. all this shit. i'll listen. i'll listen. all this shit. all this shit. i'll abdicate it. i'll work it out across the nation. i'm breathing, baby. i'll listen. all this shit. i'll work it out. open sky. open ether. open rise up inside. i see it. it's true. yeah it's true. open sky. open ether. all rise up inside. i see it. it's true. all this shit. i'll listen. all this shit. i'll listen. all this shit. i'll work it out. all this shit in the nation. i'm breathing but i'll say shit. you really pity me cause i'll take you out. open sky. open ether. open rise. i believe it. i see it. it's true. yeah you're through. open sky. open ether. all rise up inside. i see it. it's true. yeah. take it away kimmi. all this shit.)

"Red Carpet And Rebellion"
(red carpet and rebellion. makes ya wonder at these established ones. they ain't out to get ya cause you're a mile away. i heard a siren. a city warning. they said a new dawn arrives in the morning. so i wait out tonight for the new sunrise. they laid me to rest with an aberration. i woke up the living dead colossally mistaken. i ran through the streets where i break down. there ain't no money. there ain't no time. yeah, i'm out of my mind. don't want to waste this away. ashamed when i am and shamed when i'm not. configuration of the american dream. the palace dialed on the streets were burning. the red horizon came crashing through the morning. there was no contentment, only blood shed. red blood and social discontent. bruised by puritan. oh puritan exempt. it's like a peasant uprising. there ain't no money. there ain't no time. yeah, i'm out of my mind. don't want to waste this away. ashamed when i am and shamed when i'm not. configuration of the american dream. st. petersburg, 1905. father garpan led the protest up inside. up inside. distillers breakdown. yeah, we are gone. there ain't no money. there ain't no time. yeah, i'm out of my mind. don't want to waste this away. i'm feeling ashamed when i am and shamed when i'm not. configuration of the american dream. red carpet and rebellion. makes ya wonder at these established ones. they ain't out to get ya cause you're a mile away.)

"Colossus U.S.A."
(aw shit. i know what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it. i know what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it. whatcha live for when you're no one? what ya do and where ya come from. you call. i feel a lack of grace. a certain disconnection. dissapated understanding. seems like second slitting. seems like second slitting in. third world company. what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it. i know what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it. don't walk away. shit. i met a man on the street. he said this is poverty. downtown on broadway street. i don't really know his name. said, "live in the world, not for gain." i know what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it. i know what you wanted. i know that you want it, want it.)

"Blackheart"
(one time you lied. your high, so high. my life. my time. you walk black lines. hey, clean your mess. hey, you're a mess. hey, clean your mess. hey, you're a mess. one time i lied. all the time. my life. my time. you walk black lines. i don't like need this. i don't like need this. fuck.)

"Gypsy Rose Lee"
(when i see you lay down under pink laquered skies. baby, i'll give you something that'll shut your eyes to this mess. when i love you baby. i mean it more than just the whole world. and when i take a picture that's instant, it gets lost tonight. oh baby. it gets burned. i said i remember it so. i saw your eyes go through the tunnel. and i remember australian sun. i was eight years old. you were marilyn monroe. oh ya got to take it. oh, you take it on. playing backyard blues. black tart stuck up in their jaw. i can nail. i'll nail this on. oh, she ate the whole world. break it down. oh, i've tasted. i tasted too. too many nights lost in space. i remember kneeling down. my knees caught in the ground. when i love you baby. i mean it more than just the whole world. and when i saw gypsy rose. gypsy rose, she rose to me. i remember a rolling stone. rolling on down through your bones. oh ya gotta save. you gotta save your soul. well she hates the whole world. and when i love you baby. i mean it more than just the whole world. and when i saw gypsy rose. gypsy rose, she rose to me baby. i love you baby. i mean it more than just the whole world. and when i know you're saying. i know you're saying. i know your wings.)

"The Blackest Years (+ secret track)"
(oh berlin, your heart has been drawn and quartered again. the east and the west were divided by a wall that stumbled their freedom. well the wall came down in 1989 but its ghost still refuses to leave. these hauntings are so reputative. there's a bit of you in me. let's go. oh berlin, your life's on fire. it burns deep within this heart of mine. you got astronomical, economical suffering for a century. and when the ocean swells that day i'll get on my ship and i'll sail away. all this shit. holy shit. all this shit. and when you're all alone don't forget me. and when i'm all alone i won't forget you. when you're all alone don't forget me cause i'm on the wrong side of the tracks. but i did not know until you turned your back. i'm living the blackest years of my life. but i did not know until you said goodbye. goodbye. oh berlin, your witness stands here on this city shamed kinda day. i'm going home. and when you're all alone don't forget me. and when i'm all alone i won't forget you. and when you're all alone don't forget me. cause i'm on the wrong side of the tracks. but i did not know until you turned your back. i'm living the blackest years of my life. but i did not know until you said goodbye. goodbye...........................
(we were young girls in a small world. i'm on yr doorstep, man, ringing yr bell again.  i'm ringing your bell again. we were young girls in a small fucked up world. i'm on yr doorstep, man, ringing yr bell again. i'm ringing your bell again. sorry gertie rouge. all that you thrill. i know that you're thrilled. oh gertie rouge, i'm sorry yeah. i'm sorry ya thrill. oh gertie rouge i miss you. we were young girls in a small world. i'm on yr doorstep, man, ringing yr bell again. i'm ringing your bell again. baby. young girls in a small world. i'm on yr doorstep, man, ringing yr bell again. i'm ringing your bell again. i'm ringing your bell.)

Half Empty "People Are Basically Good"

Not much can be found online about the CA punk band, Half Empty (sometimes spelled 1/2 MT). The label they were on (New Disorder Records) is still up & running, so that's nice. I purchased this CD through half.com believe it or not. It came with a sticker that read "1/2 MT an equation for optimism". Half Empty have male/female vocals and sometimes have very political lyrics. For this album, Chris played bass, Ernst sang and played guitar, Jack sang and played drums, and Rachel sang and played guitar and sax. Here are the lyrics for each song, along with a link to download that song.

"School Song"
(Your parents never lie to you. And your teachers, what they tell you is true, why you go to school. I want to be your whipping girl. Ride the rollercoaster of your arbitrary rules. I want to learn my place with inflexible castes and to relish false rebellion in my one day skipping class. I want to learn to hate and fear with all of my heart. To be trained in boredom while I pick my desk apart. I want to be conditioned to forget it all as well when we shuffle chairs at the ringing of the bell. That's school...fuck school. If that's all there is, it's not for me. Eight lock-down hours of misery and when you're done it's bombs away. School's just one big fucking lie. You're learning nothing, big surprise. Five days a week. You wish you'd die and when they say you won't succeed. Succeed at what? I don't believe you've taught a thing I'll ever need. Drop out right now.)

"skit 1"
[Johnny, you rat-face piece of shit. We're sending the police over to come get your criminal ass and after they're done with you we're gonna kick the living shit out of you.]

"A Prayer For Martial Law"
(Lord keep me safe from things I don't like. Keep everything pure and out of sight. Build us walls so I'll never know it's there. Keep the television running so I'll stay scared. I don't want to deal with reality. I don't want to question must less see. I'm lazy and I'm scared and I'm not very bright. I need your opinion on what's wrong and right. Why pray for hope or pray for peace or pray for things I'll never see? Or other prayers, they're all flawed. I'll just pray for martial law. Lord build us walls around our factory homes. Xenophobic comfort when we're alone. Your own private army of racist thugs. Isolated members of a paranoid club.

"Industry"
(I can see all the lights of our industry and I've got a warm feeling they're giving to me. Thank you for all the things you sell. I've seen every one and I wish you well. So you're an executive? What do you make? What food is produced? What bread do you bake? We make nothing for no one and nobody cares. We've made whole economies out of thin air. There'd be something to live on if somebody cared. Still nothing for no one since nobody cares. There's a contract proposal. A building torn down. Talk about the jobs it'll bring to town. Are you making good or just employed? Is this the only life you enjoy? You can spin more wheels and still stand still. You want to do nothing and probably will.)

"Santa Collector"
(There's a woman living down in San Jose. She's watching her life as it slips away. Once she thought she wanted more than a mortgage and a shopping list. There's a hole in her life where there was ambition. There's a hole in her life and she needs diversion. She fills all the holes with Santa figurines. Santa teapot holders and Santa Claus dreams. All you ever do is watch t.v. Santa collector, what do you see? Are you still turned to QVC? Would you ever think of calling me? She cleans off the Santas every day but they will never keep her problems away. The only thing left to express herself is a thousand plastic Santas on a dusty shelf. There's a fine line between hobby and obsession and you've nothing left to say at your PTA session. You want to be quirky but you're deranged. That's not normal, it's insane.)

"skit 2"
[You did something totally illegal; breaking and entering. And robbery.]

"Telling Tupelo To Poop On The Mango Bar"
(Same old party. Same old crowd. But you hear a crash that's a little too loud. First to the door to greet the new guests. It's a dozen policemen on your steps. Your neighbors watch your every move. Between that and t.v. there's nothin' to do. If they came to take you away one night do you really think your neighbors would even blink? Your neighbors are gonna turn you in! So you have a few friends from a different race and you keep odd hours and stay out late. They'd rather see you in jail than know your name. Weirdo, criminals, it's all the same. The perfect militia, the perfect police. Got more informants than the soviet state. If we weren't such strangers than we might not have to have so many police.)

"Beer and Goggles"
(For a start let's set things straight. The corporations you love to hate. It's been too easy to train you well. The money keeps on rolling in. You're so punk and still they win. The companies are smarter still. And all those ads, that sexist shit, it makes me tired and sick of it. And money flows from you to them. Now let's take nicotine; sold with the image of rebel teens. You'll be part of a secret club but part of the secret they forgot to tell. There's a million others in as well. They've all been suckered just like you. Money's all this thing's about, not independence or standing out. You get sick and they get rich. If you think you're rebelling I've got news. The companies aren't about to lose a single cent from what you do.)

"skit 3"
{high heels walking on cement}

"Catapillar Ice Cream"
(She's got hard shoes, they go clip clop clip clop. Everywhere she goes they go clip clop clip clop. I can hear her walking going clip clop clip clop. I can hear her running going clip clop clip clop. I have to run wherever I go. I'd like to walk but I walk to slow. Twice as fast to get half as far. It'll be just my luck to be hit by a car. Blood stains, speed kills. Fast cars, hard shoes. Her plaid suit still clips and binds like hard shoes and children left behind. She looks professional every day. Her feet are killing. She can't run away.)

"Smurfing and Spying"
(Forget the suits. Forget the ties. I work the job I do in any disguise. Can't trust the people that I meet. A password and a glance in a dead end street. Take the fire exit to the second floor. I've got to get the files behind that door. At the Embassy party I work the guests, picking every pocket till there's nothing left. On a foreign park bench I spend the night waiting for the man who'll ask for a light. I switch my passport and I'm on the plane. Destination: nowhere to stop. My room is bugged. Someone's tapped my phone. i keep my head down when I leave my home. What I do is secret but I'm not alone.)

"skit 4"
[Hi, um, this message if for Ernst. Um, this is Sandy. You met me on Saturday. And, um, this is, like, totally irrelevant to band stuff. But, um, I was just wondering, um, what kind of hair bleach do you use because your hair is really white and I have to bleach my hair again and I want to use what you use because I want really white hair.]

"Rock Stars"
(It's not rock stars who make rock stars. It's the kids who think they're better than they are. Does it mean I think? Does it mean I'm smart? If I'm in a band and can play guitar? When you drop a name do you know what you've said? You're saying that they're famous, that they're over your head. This is just a band. This is just a song. I thought it could mean something but I could be wrong. In all the zines and interviews you'd better be careful with the words you choose. It's not just the kids who make rock stars. It's the bands who think they're better than they are. They believe the kids who make rock stars and won't acknowledge you unless they know who you are.)

"skit 5"
[Give Ron back his cat. I'm gonna kill you. I'm gonna take my Glock and put a bullet right between your eyes. I know where you live. Give it back. It's not your cat. It's wrong. Give it back to Ron. Remember, I'll track you down and shoot you right between the eyes with my Glock.]

"Property"
(The night had been bad but the johns had been worse. The one that just beat her surely wasn't the first. So she shot him six times with the gun in her purse. She won't live her life in fear anymore. He'd cut her with a knife and left her still on the floor. He thought he was fine. She was just his whore. The judge thought the same. He locked her away. As he read the sentence he had this to say, "You're not pulling your weight with the taxes I pay." You're property. You belong to me. I can do with you whatever I please. You're property. You belong to me. I'll never understand why you want to be free. You're property. You belong to me. But worth a lot less than a car to me. Ali worked the counter at the liquor store. Helped to keep the people drunk. Helped to keep them poor. Sold them a little so they'd always need more. He shot three robbers at three different times for as little as a quarrel over the price of wine. Nothing like a gun to keep consumers in line. For this he got a medal from the city police and the local landlord just extended his lease. He does whatever the fuck he pleases. You're property. You belong to me. I can do with you whatever I please. You're property. You belong to me. I'll never understand why you want to be free. You're property. You belong to me. But worth a lot less than a car to me.)

"The Battle Between the Crab Aliens and the Automatic Ski Slope"
(I saw the news on my t.v. Who's been feeding this shit to me? Talking heads say this is it but I guess it depends on where you sit. Errors, lies and miscalculations all across this so-called nation. I saw two pictures, now they're gone. I can't help thinking something's wrong. Leave the safety of your home. If you don't like the news, go make your own. All the stuff you've ever known and all the things that you've been shown are nothing. When you've made the news, you know the facts but things keep changing behind our backs. Such trust is placed in a well-dressed man reading a prompter as fast as he can. Did you ever wonder who made those prompts? Maybe there's no one there at all. If you trust what is on your t.v. you'll believe anything that you see.)

"Where You Are King"
(Eyes on the clock, you watch my lips, my fingers spreading them wide. Hands on your cock, thrusting your hips. You care less who am I. Making love to myself, myself, myself at the mercy of my undulations and I squeeze out another five. One minute forty of my trembling flesh and your imagination flies. I don't care who you are anymore. You're mine. You're mine. Your gaze drops down and follows the creamy curve of my things. Bending back into myself. Hands flowing over hips. Meeting flesh with glass you straighten your tie. I'm rolling over watching the time tick by. I'm just an image behind this thick screen and even though I have eyes, you turn me over like the page of your book. Break the binding. Open wide. I don't care who you are anymore. You're mine. You're mine. I drink your cum and spank myself. Spread my legs. Strip down to nothing. Ride you hard. You fuck. You fuck. You fuck me hard and then there's more. Eat my cunt and lick my ass. I'll take it longer than you can last. Making love to myself, I meet the reflection in the glass.)

"Mommi, I'm A Misfit" - Tragics

This tune is full of energy and fun. Live a misfit, die a misfit.
I found this track on disc 9 of a reference of female fronted punk (1977-1989). Download that shit.
Take care & enjoy this track...and if anyone has this 7" email me! I want to hear the rest.

The Groodies all-female punk

I went to a Groodies show on my birthday one year. It was cold & I had a hard time finding the place. It was my first time @ Logan Square Auditorium (Chicago). At the time I was singing w/the hardcore-punk band, Help Me Help Me I Can't Breath. We had played some shows together & I was blown away each time. Before we played together, I had seen The Groodies @ some pizza pub in Buffalo Grove. They were still in high school @ the time. They rocked the roof off that place. They may one day be featured on my other blog, all-female bands. But for now, enjoy these rare tracks from one of Chicago-land's best all-female punk bands. This "secret" e.p. was put out after their s/t CD came out & before their "Hands Off My Stereo!" e.p. was released. It seems like you can still buy these two releases at Interpunk. Enjoy!

Distillers - City Of Angels e.p.

I forgot to mention that I saw The Distillers @ Warped Tour as well; great band! After The Distillers put out their 2nd full-length album (Sing Sing Death House), they started to get some air-play. A single for "City of Angels" was released in The Netherlands in 2002. Here's the one song ("Solvent") that was only available on this e.p.

Distillers - Solvent

[EDIT; "Solvent" is actually a song written by Sourpuss, Brody's band before the Distillers.  Download the Sourpuss album here.]

The Start

I know a great deal of female-fronted bands. I have too many to name. But speaking of the start, there was a female-fronted band called "The Start." Saw them years back @ Warped Tour. Yeah, I used to go to Warped Tour. 3 best bands I saw @ Warped Tour; Lo-Ball, The Muffs, & The Start. Everything else was mediocre. [EDIT; forgot to mention that seeing The Distillers @ Warped Tour was also great.]
